Alright so now you know a little bit more about the story of Persephone, let’s get ready to get started!
Now, I worked rather large for this lesson and I encourage you to do the same. Working on a large portrait may seem intimidating but it can be incredibly freeing! If you don’t have an easel just tape your watercolor paper to a wall in your work area!
Before we get going, you will notice that I am not working from a specific photo reference but rather a concept sketch. Which you are welcome to work from.
Following the concept sketch I did a simple value study and added touches of color using my iphone and the app Procreate! I highly recommend using this app to play with your creations before adding paint. You can play with value, color and other design decisions! This can give you more direction and confidence before starting your piece.
I did create an inspiration Pinterest board for you too so hopefully that will get your creative juices flowing!
Of course, we know that most of the images on Pinterest are copyright protected so if you do choose to use one as an inspiration make sure you change it and make it your own. Here are some other copyright FREE reference photos you can work from if you like too! These are via Unsplash.com.
